Functional Requirements

1. Requests data from weather stations.
2. Collates data from stations and integrates data with reports from other sources such as 
satellites and ships.  (Data and the reports are input into a COTS forecasting system.)
3. Generates local weather maps.  (Uses digitized maps from a map database and 
information from the COTS forecasting system.)
4. Prepares local forecasts.  (The COTS forecasting system will generate these.)
5. Puts forecast in database.  (The COTS forecasting system sends the forecasts to the 
forecast database.)
6. Public can access local forecast via a web site.  (Database will respond to requests from 
the web server and provide requested forecasts and localized weather maps.)







Non-functional Requirements

1. Requests data every 5 minutes.
2. Updates local forecast every 4 hours.
3. Security  (Uses a secure connection between the area computer and weather station.)
4. Easy to use (The web server will have a simplified user interface where only the zip code 
is required to get a local forecast.)
